A real Medieval Wedding
The "Medieval Wedding" is not a fiction but a real legal marriage in Tuscany. It takes place every year in Suvereto a tiny and charming village of Tuscany.
For two nights every year Suvereto seems to go back to the Middle Ages. Electric Light is minimized, the streets are lit up with torches and candles, hundreds of villagers in costume turned into ancient artisans and housewives who offer cakes of the time, while you can change the euro with ancient coins "superstate", the militia of the accounts Aldobrandeschis camps on the Rocca and people on the streets celebrating with musicians and jugglers.
The bride and groom and their entourage are wearing medieval costumes, including the mayor who celebrates the wedding. The groom waits for the bride, who arrives on horseback in front of the Town Hall dated back 1200.
After the celebration, there is a "Medieval Dinner", a traditional appointment with medieval dishes, cooked according to the recipes of the time. The evening ends with the medieval reenactment of the concession of the Charta Libertatis (1201) to the Suvereto community by Ildebrandino VIII. Over a hundred people take part in the Historical Parade with soldiers, guests of other castles, and animated by the quaint and picturesque group of peasants with their barnyard animals, who bring gifts to the Lord.
Since 2001, couples coming from all parts of Italy and even from abroad can ask to celebrate a real Medieval wedding here.
